China's Medicine Capital: The Anguo Chinese Herbal Medicine Industrial Belt
The Core Production Base for "Eight Famous Qi Herbs" and Authentic Medicinal Materials
Historically known as "Qizhou," Anguo boasts a pharmaceutical heritage that originated in the Han Dynasty, began in the Song, flourished in the Ming, and peaked during the Qing. The region's unique soil and climate have given rise to the renowned "Eight Famous Qi Herbs": Qi Chrysanthemum, Qi Yam, Qi Aster, Qi Glehnia, Qi Coix Seed, Qi Schizonepeta, Qi Angelica Dahurica, and Qi Trichosanthes. Notably, Qi Chrysanthemum and Qi Yam have both received National Geographical Indication certification.
Currently, Anguo maintains a consistent Chinese herbal medicine planting area of approximately 167,000 mu (about 11,133 hectares), yielding nearly 91,700 tons of medicinal materials annually. This accounts for over 70% of Hebei Province's total medicinal output. In terms of specific categories, Anguo produces 60% of the nation's Schizonepeta, 50% of its Pollen, and over 40% of its Aster, establishing absolute pricing power in these specific authentic medicinal sectors.
Industrial Scale & Full-Chain Advantages: Accelerating Towards a 100-Billion-Level Cluster
Anguo's herbal medicine industry has completely moved beyond simple planting and primary processing. It has established a comprehensive ecological loop covering primary, secondary, and tertiary industries. In 2024, the industry generated 89.75 billion RMB in revenue and is sprinting towards the goal of becoming a 100-billion-level industrial cluster.
A Matrix of Deep Processing Led by Enterprises Above Designated Size
As the only national-level green manufacturing park in Hebei Province, the Anguo Modern Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Industrial Park has attracted industry giants such as Beijing Tongrentang, Tianjin Chase Sun Pharmaceutical, and Zhangzhou Pien Tze Huang. Driven by the "Front-Runner" enterprise cultivation plan, local leading companies like Jinmu Group and Yaodu Pharmaceutical have rapidly emerged. The city is now home to 43 high-tech pharmaceutical enterprises, 42 "Specialized, Refined, Differential, and Innovation" (SRDI) enterprises, and 6 Single Champion enterprises. There are 90 pharmaceutical manufacturing enterprises above designated size, with total output value and value-added increasing by 19.1% and 11.0% year-on-year in 2024, respectively.
The Nation's Largest Professional Herbal Medicine Market
The Anguo Professional Chinese Herbal Medicine Market handles a daily throughput of over 1,000 tons, trading more than 3,000 varieties. In 2024 alone, the market achieved a transaction volume of 41.5 billion RMB. It serves not only as a physical trading hub but also as the national "barometer" for Chinese herbal medicine pricing.
New Growth Engines: General Health & "Medicine-Food Homology"
Anguo is precisely targeting the general health sector, accelerating the formation of a "10-billion-level Health Food Industrial Cluster." Currently, the city hosts 69 "Medicine-Food Homology" production enterprises, with 6 companies holding qualifications for health food production (Blue Hat certification). The Baixiaodan Medicated Diet Pre-prepared Dish project, with an investment of 51 million RMB, has been completed and put into production. "Anguo Medicated Diet" products, such as Angelica Sinensis Mutton and Astragalus Pork Tripe Chicken, have been successfully launched into the market.
